Steve Ellis is an artist working in the NY Catskills and the Lower East Side. He paints lighters, ripped print media, ripped print media on fire, crumpled packaging, guitar picks, whisky bottles, broken bottles, crashed cars and bad weather. All subjects represent a narrative parallel inspired by experience.

Stevellis Art started in the late nineties in a storefront studio on 10th St in the East Village. He made art for parties like Squeezebox, Motherfucker, Area 10009 and The Apocalypse Lounge. Prior to that he worked in toy design and freelanced as an illustrator. His work can be seen in the Alejandro Amenabar's film "The Others" opening titles.

His first gallery showings were at Colin DeLand’s American Fine Arts and within the show "The Meaning of Style" curated by Anne Ellegood at Brooklyn Front Gallery. For near 20 years he has exhibited nationally and internationally in spaces ranging from the Conde Nast lobby at 4 Times Square to the Jerry Lee Williams Memorial Outhouse Gallery in upstate NY.

His series have investigated the transitory beauty of mundane to glamorous, dangerous and disposable still lifes and uses pop culture iconography to explore various issues including contemporary consumerism, idolatry, the environment and the death of print media.

Ellis' works are held in private collections in Tokyo, Rome, Australia, Seoul, Moscow, Singapore, AbuDhabi, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, New York, and London.
